“If you can speak, you can sing,
if you can walk, you can dance,
if you can clap, you can drum”
To help give interns or volunteers insight into the musical aspect of Ghana, InterAct organises drumming lessons which should be attended only in the afternoons or evening after work. The lesson can be taken on a intensive basis (workshop) by interns/ volunteers/ tourists who do not live in the town in which the drumming lessons are offered.
The drumming courses are available in Koforidua, Tamale and Nkwatia (near Nkawkaw).
The first month’s drumming lessons must be booked in advance. The lessons are divided into single and small group (2-3 people) lessons. One drumming hour is 60 minutes. Our coordinator will take you to the drummer for the first lesson. This is done only on the first day of the course after which the volunteer/ intern/ tourist is expected to visit the course by himself/ herself.
Drumming lesson (single): One lesson (60 minutes) a week for 4 weeks is 15 Euro. One Euro will go into the solidarity fund.
Intensive drumming lesson (single): Two lessons (120 minutes) a week for 4 weeks is 28 Euro. Two Euro will go into the solidarity fund.
Drumming workshop (single): Four hours a day - with 30 minutes break is 15 Euro. One Euro will go into the solidarity fund.
Drumming lesson (small group): One lesson (60 minutes) a week for 4 weeks is 12 Euro ( per person). One Euro will go into the solidarity fund.
Intensive drumming lesson (small group): Two lessons (120 minutes) a week for 4 weeks is 22 Euro. Two Euro will go into the solidarity fund.
Drumming Workshop (small group): Four hours a day – with 30 minutes break is 12 Euro (per person). One Euro will go into the solidarity fund.
Drumming lessons after the first month should be arranged by the drumming student and the drumming teacher. However, InterAct has fixed the price for further drumming lessons at:
For the single lesson, the hourly rate should be 5 GH Cedis.
For a small group, the hourly rate to be paid by each group member is 3,5 GH Cedis.
Note: The first month’s cost of the drumming lessons is collected by InterAct to guarantee the drumming teacher’s income at least for the first month.
Contact us through email or use contact facility on our website and demand for a registration form.
Since we do not provide drumming lessons in all project towns, we advise that interns/ volunteers/ should apply for drumming lessons on receipt of the “starter packet” which describes the project town. Through this the intern/ volunteer will know if he/ she should choose a workshop (take place during the weekends) or the normal lessons.
Please note that in case of small group lessons, the group members should be forwarded to us on registration. You can make contact to other interns/ volunteers through our internet website via forum. If you are travelling in two or three and where all wish to partake in the drumming course, then the problem of finding group members is solved.
